As December looms closer the weather has turned a bit colder, and with a bit of snow on the ground it certainly looks and feels like winter ...brrrr!. However, it wasn't too cold that it would spoil a day out birding. Headed to Sedgewick Forest in Oakville, a small green space tucked in the middle of a sub-division, next to a Water Treatment facility, that has been reporting some less than usual warblers, etc (Yellow Rumped, Pine Warblers & Orange Crowned Kinglets etc). I didn't pick out any of the aforementioned, but I did see a few Goldfinches, Purple Finches and surprisingly a few American Robins (they, as well as the warblers, should have been in sunnier climes by now, but it would appear that the bugs that being produced by the heat from the Water Treatment plant is keeping them around. Decided after an hour of stalking, and minimal success, that maybe a change of location might change my luck, so headed to Hendrie Valley in Burlington, next to the Botanical Gardens. A few birders around and spotted a few White Throated Sparrows, Cardinals, White breasted Nuthatches, Downy Woodpecker or two, a gazillion Chickadees, and a Juv. Red-Tailed Hawk on the hunt. I have added a few images in the Gallery below .. First time out in a few weeks, after some medical issues, which hopefully is now resolved. Popped over to one of the old standby's ... Riverside Park in Cambridge. I was hoping for Purple Finches, Hairy Woodpecker, Northern Shrike and possibly a hawk or two. The only one out of the list I manged to spot was the Purple Finch, albeit at some distance away. Other sightings are generally as the Gallery below ... American Tree Sparrow, Black Capped Chickadee, American Goldfinch, Purple Finch, Cardinal, White Breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay & Downy Woodpecker

Blog AuthorPretty much all my life I have had an interest in nature photography albeit in, off and on, phases of interest. Around 18 years ago, I found myself, again, getting that nature bug, and I am now, especially since I retired just over 8 years ago, very passionate about wildlife & wildlife photography. Archives
