Saturday (12th) was my birthday, so I was hoping for good luck, and generally I was not disappointed. 1st stop was the Arboretum at the University of Guelph where there was a plethora of Kinglets, mainly Ruby-Crowned ... they seemed to be in every bush, but they didn't sit in the one spot for more than a millisecond, so getting an in-focus shot was a distinct challenge. There were a few Hermit Thrushes around which was a nice surprise. Another unlikely catch was an Eastern Towhee - actually there was two of them that were chasing each other around, but the one sat still for a few seconds, just long enough for the "portrait" below. Next stop was Hespeler Mill Pond, to check out the Snow Goose reported there. I jumped out of my vehicle, leaving the camera/lens in the car, and within 10 seconds a Bald Eagle flew past me (less than 100' away). By the time I was "tooled up", the Eagle was long gone. However he did come back about 15 mins later, but was somewhat further away this time, but close enough for the shot shown inset... and there were two Snow Geese along with a gaggle of Canada Geese ... so as far as days go, this was not a bad one.

Blog AuthorPretty much all my life I have had an interest in nature photography albeit in, off and on, phases of interest. Around 18 years ago, I found myself, again, getting that nature bug, and I am now, especially since I retired just over 8 years ago, very passionate about wildlife & wildlife photography. Archives
